The Moving Museum Dubai

March - June 2013

In 2013, The Moving Museum launched its travelling programme and brought the first major museum quality show of international contemporary art to Dubai. The Exhibition TECTONIC featured 24 of the world’s most innovative voices in contemporary art in what became a landmark presentation for the region. The exhibition was held in a 20,000 sq ft warehouse in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) a then central hub for contemporary art in the region.

Several of the artists were invited to Dubai and took part in talks, performances, and site specific installations. Partnerships and site specific installations were established with a selection of Dubai’s leading non-profits including Shelter, The Archive, The Pavilion, Traffic, Caspian Arts Foundation and Art Dubai. An accompanying 400-page publication was produced and distributed locally and internationally.

Whether it is social entrepreneurship, DIY culture or a mix of both and more, the spirit invoked by The Museum, its ethos and its willingness to introduce a new way of looking at things to Dubai should act as an object lesson on how things can be done these days. - Harpar’s Bazaar
